Elephant and Giraffe Painting

For my friends birthday I wanted to make her a painting so I did.
She likes elephants and I like giraffes so I painted them both in a heart like shape

Artsy Fartsy Needs: Canvas, paint, paint brushes, pencil and paper.

In order for me to draw I need to look at something to copy it because it's easier for me.
So I found this picture of giraffes and the elephant to copy.

My super secret tip on how to draw/paint something that you can't is to copy it from your computer.
I take a piece of paper and put it up to my lap top screen, have the picture I want to trace up on the screen, turn the bright up the whole way and then trace the picture onto paper with a pencil so I don't leave a mark on my computer.

After I have it traced on the paper I need to get it on the canvass,
I take the paper with the picture and trace the picture with a sharpie over the canvass
the sharpie will leak onto the canvass and leave a faint outline.
After that I'll paint over the lines so it goes away and at the same time filling in the picture.
After that I got this!

I wish I would have realized that it would have been such a white background ahead of time.
Since I wanted the background blue it made it difficult to go around the animals
so if you do this make sure you know what you want your background like before you start.
I did a tree on the side which was easy used different types of brown stroked to make the tree
then use a rough brush to make the leaves.
After that I was setting up how big I want my quote to be.

When I figured out how big I want the quote I wrote it nicely on a white paper, like a cloud,
then used mod podge, that you can get from michaels, to put it on the canvass.

Hakuna Some Vodka DIY Drinking Shirt

When I turned 21 I went to Vegas but before I went I wanted to make a drinking shirt

Artsy Fartys Needs: a shirt, paint, paint brushes, stencils and drinking quote

I loved the drinking quote "Hakuna some vodka, it means get wasted"
So I set out to find a Lion King shirt and I found this one a forever 21

I used my stencils and made each letter go one way and another to look uneven
After painting the letters yellow I outlined it in black
I then carefully wrote "it means get wasted" my hand

I thought there was some empty space so I panted a sun on the side.
I got so many complements on my shirt and it's so easy to DIY!

Chargers Shirt

My friend is a chargers fan so I thought I would make her a shirt for her birthday!

Really easy to do and cheap!
Artsy Fartsy Needs: Shirt, paint, and stencils

I looked up charger quotes and found "Light em up, lay em out" and loved it!
Once I got the quote down just needed to get the shirt and stencil it on.
I also had to look up the lightening bolt but that was easy to copy.
After I stencil on the letters on I like to outline it in another color, this case white, so that it looks clean.
Once thats all done now you have a great shirt to give or wear!

Chevron Pumpkin

This year for Halloween I wanted to do a chevron pumpkin
This one took a while to do so if you want a fast pumpkin don't pick this one.

Artsy fartsy needs: a pumpkin and I used just a knife but I think a pumpkin carving kit would do better

I thought it would look better to cut out the top already like the chevron design instead of a circle.

Carve out the inside.

First I traced where I would do the carving by lightly cutting the pumpkin, which I think you can faintly see in the picture.
Then I took the knife and sliced up the top layer of the pumpkin like so.
It hurt a little to use the knife but I wanted to finish it.
I think a pumpkin kit would be easier or maybe a potato slicer but I finished it!

Sadly when I put a candle in the pumpkin it didn't light up but it still looked pretty

Halloween - Flo

Since the progressive commercial came out I've had a bunch of people tell me that I remind them of Flo by my personality and when I cut my hair I decided to finally be her for Halloween.

This is by far the cheapest costume I've ever had. All I had to pay for was the apron and blue ribbon for my hair. All you need is a white shirt, white pants, black converse, white apron, and a blue headband or in my case ribbon. I didn't want to go buy a blue headband that I wasn't going to wear again so I got ribbon that was only 50 cents. I already had stencils and the paint so I just painted progressive on the apron along with her nametag. For her "I <3 Insurance" button I found it online and taped it on me.

I think I did a pretty good job of looking like her and I hope I have helped you too!

It's Pumpkin Time!

Since it's halloween time here's some pumpkins I've done over the years!

I have an obsession with the movie Wall-E so I carved Eve one year!
It was fairly easy, you just have to draw her on the pumpkin and they are just shapes so it's not too hard. After that you have to be very careful because you don't want to go all the way through the pumpkin. Even going less than how much I did would be better because as you can see I poked a hole in the middle. Then light the pumpkin up and you're good to go!!

Now this one was pretty tricky. I drew on the pumpkin like I did in the first one but I messed up a bunch of times so thats why I had to paint it. After a few days it started to fall so I put a cup in the middle to keep it standing. If I was to do it again I wouldn't have that big of gaps in-between it.

Pool Party Captions

To go along with my artsy fartsy pool party theme I made captions for all the food.

Get some cheeto like cheese balls and call them "beach balls"

I mad my own guacamole but you can buy what ever dip you want so people can "take a dip" in it but don't forget the "rafts" for the dip (chips)

Get some licorice to use as the "pool noodles"

And this isn't a caption but this is how I decorated my house.
After the pool party I had everyone over to watch a movie.
But I used old balloons (my dads 50th balloons but just turned the 50 around)

Blow up mattress on the floor along with the couches and a ton of pillows!

I have a small house so if you do too I'm sure you can make do and do what I did as well!

Fruit Ideas for Your Party

Theses are the artsy fartsy fruit projects to do for your party!

Get a watermelon and slice open the top and carve out the whole melon.
Save the watermelon for later!

I took the excess juice and some of the chunks of water melon and blended it up with some juice that I bought from the store. Get some juice that you think would be good with watermelon.

Once blended put back into the watermelon to serve as the perfect juice for your party!
Since it won't stay standing put in in a bowl full of ice. Also if you want to keep the lid for it you can pierce two holes into the lid and tie string around it like I did.

This is why you wanted to keep some watermelon for the rainbow fruit kabobs!
I got watermelon for the red, cantaloupe for the orange, kiwi for the green, and grapes for the purple.
Of course you can use what ever you want this is what I did.

Sand Pudding and Jello Pond

Doesn't this look just like sand?
Well it fooled me too when I first saw it!

This is some delicious sand pudding that is great for a summer party!
I got the recipe from Ma Nouvelle Mode

Making the sand was easy just blend a whole box of Vanilla Waffers and about 3 Oreos into a food processor. You'll layer the sand then pudding like so.

The website gives a whole recipe on how to do it "cream together softened 8 oz cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. In another bowl, mix pudding with milk.  Add to cream cheese mixture.  Fold in cool whip." but I found that I couldn't blend the butter together so next time I'll do it with out that.
Otherwise it was really good if you could ignore the chunks of butter :p

This is my Jello pond!
Artsy fartsy needs: Blue Jello, Air Head, left over "sand" from above, Teddy Grams, circular mints or Lifesavers, Swedish Fish, and a little umbrella.

Before I put the Jello in I dropped a few Swedish Fish into the bowl then put it in the fridge for the Jello to harden. Once the Jello is ready that's when you can decorate the top!
Put more Swedish Fish on top, "sand" on the side, use the Air Heads as towels and a diving board, use the mints as floaties for the Teddy Grams, and then place the little umbrella in the sand.

The one down fall about this is that the mints melted while in the hot summer sun, so that's why I think lifesavers would be better.
